The New Year always gets me thinking about my travel goals for the year ahead. Some goals are realistic, while others are trips that I would love to do but for one reason or another I don't actually think I will ever do in my lifetime. Why? well some adventures just seem to big, too scary or too expensive. I think people call them 'travel bucket list'- destinations we would love to see before we die. So, below are some of my 'Travel Bucket List' adventures. 1. Antarctica For some reason, this cold isolated country has always fascinated me. The scenery, the temperature, the animals- all of it intrigues me. I would love to spend some time there, learning about the landscape, the climate, but mostly the animals. Penguins are one of my favourite animals, and the chance to see these cute little guys up close is one of my biggest dreams. The reason its on my bucket list? well it's extremely difficult to get to (for those who don't like boats), and its also really expensive (aren't all great trips expensive?!). 2. The Orient Express Ever since I watched David Suchet as Hercule Poirot in 'Murder on the Orient Express', I wanted to travel for myself on this magnificent train. Not, obviously to experience a grisly murder- but to experience the vintage glamour of train journey across Europe. To be honest, this hasn't been completely crossed off my list of possible journeys in my lifetime- I still hold out a hope that I'll get to experience it. Nothing could be more romantic or thrilling then a journey on the Orient Express. 3. A cruise on the Nile The Pyramids, the Sphinx and one of the world's most beautiful river cruises, makes for a truly awe inspiring adventure. I've been fascinated by Egypt since I had to do a project on the country when I was in the 7th grade. Its always held a mysterious and exotic persona for me, and I would love to cruise along the beautiful river, idly taking in the sights of such an ancient landscape. This destination is on my travel bucket list as I'm not sure I'd ever be brave enough to go. 4. Route 66 When I was little, my family embarked on a month-long bus trip around America. It was our first overseas family vacation, and I still look back at it as the greatest family holiday we ever went on. As part of our journey we travelled a short distance along Route 66, and since then I've always held this idea in my head that I'd like to go back, hire a car (like the one in The Dukes of Hazard) and drive the entire route, stopping along the way to experience American life. The website Blacktop Candy's not only offer car hire (American classics), but also tips and planners for your very own Route 66 adventure. 5. Bora Bora Is there anywhere in the world more beautiful and romantic then Bora Bora? I've wanted to go here from the very moment I saw it in a book when I was younger. I've always thought that it will be the place I'll go on Honeymoon one day (if ever I was to be so lucky to get married). Bora Bora always looks so pristine and untouched, even though hoards of wealthy people frequently swim in her waters and lounge on her beaches. I think it is paradise on earth, but the price tag associated with it means its unlikely I'll ever see her beauty in person.
