When venturing to an unspoiled land of natural beauty, its perfectly natural to need a little bit of down time from standing in awe of the world around you to indulge in a little retail therapy.  On my recent trip to the Faroe Islands, I had some spare time to wander the streets of Torshavn and fit in a little bit of boutique shopping. Torshavn isn't exactly a massive city with a bustling High Street, but there are some shopping gems if you know where to look.

Guðrun & Guðrun
Fans of Scandinavian TV dramas will recognize this fashion brand as the one behind Sarah Lund's woolly jumpers from the TV show The Killing.  Founded by two Faroese women and specialising in hand-knitted items, Guðrun & Guðrun should be the first stop for any fashionista wanting to update their wardrobe Scandi-style.

TUTL
The Faroese music scene is thriving, considering the relatively small amount of people that live on the islands. TUTL is a music shop and record label specialising in Faroese and Scandinavian music.  You’ll find their shop near the tourist information centre.  The staff are more than happy to help you find music to your taste.  I picked up a CD by Faroese singer Eivør, who has one of the most mesmerising voices I have ever heard.

Noa Noa
Danish by design and Tahitian by name, Noa Noa offers feminine clothing with a distinct Scandi influence.  Designed from headquarters in Northern Zealand by two brothers, I loved everything about this store from the moment I walked in.  The good news is that they have an extensive online shopping website, making it all the more easy for me to get the authentic Scandinavian look.

Østrøm
This design store/ café was my favourite find in the Faroe Islands. Set on the harbour side in what looks like an old shed, Østrøm is a quirky space where Faroese designers can showcase their work.  Fashion, jewellery and homewares are all on display and available for purchase.  The space is oh so chic and they do great coffee and snacks.

 HNJ Books
I love a good book shop and always take the time to explore one when I go to different countries. HNJ Books is right next door to the Visitor Information Centre and is a little treasure trove of scandi books and Faroese gifts.  I even found a Jamie Oliver cook book in Danish!  For fellow book nerds, it is a great place to see what is popular in Scandinavian writing, and they also stock books in English.
