Indulge in some cake
Who doesn’t love cake? Satisfy your sweet tooth this Sunday and visit Cake Fest at the Royal Botanic Garden in Edinburgh. Festivities kick off at 10am with market stalls from brands such as Edinburgh Larder Bistro, The Wee Chocolatier and Pimm’s. There will also be workshops for kids and entertainment followed by cake eating (of course) - and the best news is that it’s all completely FREE.
Full Fashioned – Pringle of Scotland
Iconic Scottish knitwear brand Pringle of Scotland is currently celebrating their 200th birthday with an exhibition at the National Museum of Scotland. The FREE exhibition follows their progressing from small hosiery brand located in the borders, to international luxury outerwear brand. Loved by Royals and endorsed by celebrities such as Tilda Swinton, this exhibition celebrates the brand presence on the world fashion stages.
The Sunlit Night Book Launch
Book enthusiasts should mark the 20th of June in their diary for their chance to meet author Rebecca Dinerstein. Golden Hare Books and publishing heavy weight Bloomsbury have joined together to launch Independent Booksellers Week by giving readers the chance to hear Rebecca read from and discuss her new book ‘The Sunlit Night’. Set in the ‘Far North’ on an island off Norway, The Sunlit Night follows Frances and Yasha- both running from heartbreak and trying to find solace amidst great uncertainty. Tickets are £3 which is redeemable against a copy of the book purchased on the night.
Edinburgh International Film Festival
Film buffs will be sweating with anticipation of this year’s film festival kicking off. Events start on Wednesday and run for 10 days featuring film screenings, workshops, interviews and masterclasses. Ewan McGregor will be making an appearance at the Festival (his event has already sold out), but there are heaps of film screenings to choose from. My pick is Scottish Mussel which is a romantic comedy set in Scotland starring Martin Compston, who I’m just a little bit secretly in love with.
Indulge with a Spa offer at The Balmoral
Who doesn’t love a spa offer? Get yourself well and truly relaxed before the crazy Edinburgh festival season with a spa day at The Balmoral thanks to i-on Magazine. For £55 you can enjoy day access to the swimming pool, Finnish sauna, Turkish steam room and gym, as well as enjoying a 55 minute treatment (massage or facial). You’ll also enjoy complimentary tea, coffee and water, and use of a bathrobe and slippers. The offer is valid until the end of July and you have to quote i-on when booking- I recommend booking quickly as this offer goes like hot cakes every time they do it.
